My Camera Gear
For those who are interested, here is a quick review of my camera gear and why and where I use each to my advantage! I hope to go into a bit more detail in the future, but for now, here is a quick reference!
CANON EOS 5D MARK III FULL FRAME DSLR CAMERA
I carry two of these babies in my bag, and to me, they are my favorite pieces of equipment for two main reasons.
Reason #1: The quality of images I get from this camera is truly amazing and I can shoot all the way up to 10,000 ISO with very little noticeable grain. In other words, it is phenomenal in low-light!
Reason #2: This camera has TWO card slots, which means that I am able to record the same set of images on TWO separate cards simultaneously. This gives me extra assurance and an extra backup while shooting a wedding day!
CANON EOS 50D DSLR CAMERA
This is my loyal backup camera, just in case one of my two main camera bodies malfunctions unexpectedly.
CANON 85MM F/1.2 IS II
I simply would NOT be able to live without this lens. I use this lens for bride and groom individual portraits (at f/1.2), family portraits and first dance/parent dances during the reception. It has beautiful compression...and that f/1.2! :::sigh::: It's like a dream.
CANON 50MM F/1.4
The 50mm is my go to lens, when I am either in a cramped space with low light (and I need that 50mm focal length and 1.4 aperture), or I need something lighter than the 24-70mm. It is honestly my least-used lens, but is very helpful in certain situations.
CANON 70-200MM F/2.8L IS II
This lens is versatile in its range of focal length, and creates some beautiful scene compression at its longest focal length. You'll often see me using this lens during a ceremony, family and Bride & Groom Portraits.
CANON 100MM F/2.8 IS MACRO
The 100mm is what I use for my ring shots and close-up details (jewelry, earrings, cufflinks, etc.) I usually will not use this lens for reception details (the 70-200mm or 24-70mm work great for that purpose).
CANON SPEEDLITE 600EX-RT
Four 600EX-RT's are used as my main on-camera flash units off-camera flash units
CANON 24-70MM F/2.8L
The 24-70mm is my workhorse. It's used during most of the dancing shots and whenever I need that wide angle for larger groups or action shots. I'll also occasionally whip this lens out during the Bride & Groom portraits whenever I want to include more of the scene.
